About this Project

I'm happy to show off this series of drones I created for Frontier Freight, an economy simulator with light RPG elements that we're currently working on! Each drone is designed to contribute to gameplay in a unique and meaningful way, acting as a punishment for players that don’t manage their relationships with their less-than-friendly neighbors.

The Picket Drone punishes players that have angered pirate organizations by providing high-volume nuisance attacks. Not particularly difficult to destroy, they use numbers to become a problem.

Next we have the SWARM Drone. This slower pod-like drone closes slowly, but unleashes barrages of missiles if it gets within range.

Lastly, we have SPOT, our big ball of fun. The Self-Propelled Ordinance Transporter (SPOT was more fun) moves very slow, but is heavily armored and causes heavy damage to stations and structures.

Design

Frontier Freight originally targeted mobile platforms. Although we are focusing on PC for now, I tried to ensure that we stayed within the resource budget for mobile.

These drones all reference a single 1024x1024 material, so they are very lightweight on resources.
